               HEY JOE

Joe McCloskey's retirement is effective June 12, 2015. Joe has been a valued employee at the Penn Libraries for over 30 years.

Joe began working at the Penn Libraries in 1985. He started out at the Biomedical Library and spent several years in Interlibrary Loan before coming to the Information Processing Center in 1995. Joe began his tenure in the IPC as the bibliographic problem solver, bringing catalog records dating from the 19th century to 1968 into the online catalog. He has spent the past twenty years patiently and effectively cleaning up our catalog with his ever-discerning eye.

As a Library Specialist, Joe has been responsible for the highest level of copy cataloging and has participated in numerous projects, including but not limited to retrospective conversion of the Dewey 400s, 500s, 600s, 700s, 800s, and 900s; he worked on the LC Shelflist Project; and a variety of reclass and transfer projects, such as the Yarnall Collection and most of the seminar rooms in Van Pelt. And, of course, we can't forget that Joe is the face behind FixOpac.

Joe's contributions will always be valued and remembered. His dry sense of humor, earnestness and ability to find a solution to almost any bibliographic problem makes Joe a true treasure of the Penn library system and the patrons we serve.
